Why Build Green?
Health
Good indoor air quality is essential for all of us and of particular importance in homes with children, who are more susceptible to chemicals than most adults. Eco-friendly building materials are free of harmful toxins and therefore safer for all of us.
Energy Savings
Green building focuses on insulation and energy systems which help to prevent the unnecessary loss of costly heating, cooling, and water. On an annual average, green homes save 30-50% in energy costs.
Resource Conservation
The use of recycled, recyclable, or rapidly renewable materials for building and design means that our planet’s valuable resources are not being overused, leaving a cleaner, greener planet for the next generation.
Our Products
Flooring
Green design begins from the ground up; the use of sustainable materials such as bamboo, cork and reclaimed hardwoods saves forests and provides us with beautiful, durable floors in our homes. Tiles made from recycled glass make use of already existing materials while carpets made from natural materials are not outgassing harmful toxins in our home.
Water-Saving Appliances and Fixtures
Dual-flush toilets use as little as .8 gallons per flush, compared to the 1.6 gallons used by the average new toilet. We carry high-efficiency toilets, low flow showerheads, and faucets for both kitchen and bath. All of our fixtures promise maximum water savings without compromising design or performance.
Cabinetry and Furniture
Many of the particleboard products used to make cabinets and furniture contain urea formaldehyde, a chemical known to severely impact indoor air quality. The products we offer contain the by-products of agricultural production such as wheat, sorghum and sunflower seed hulls. These are all appealing sustainable options held together with non-toxic laminates and glues.
Countertops
We carry a variety of beautiful, eco-friendly choices for countertops and vanities, including some made from concrete, recycled glass, paper composites, aluminum scrap or bamboo. All are sustainably produced and made from non-toxic, non-outgassing materials and binders, protecting indoor air quality.
Lighting
A quick and simple way to save energy in your home is to replace traditional lighting with energy-efficient bulbs, such as compact fluorescents (CFL) or light-emitting diodes (LED). We offer a variety of alternatives to incandescent light bulbs, all of which can last 6-10 years in your home. Under-cabinet lighting, which provides the perfect task lighting in a kitchen, is also available.
